KnotMyDebt is an educational debt-reduction companion. You enter your debt balances and a
comfortable monthly budget, and the app estimates your debt-free date, compares payoff
strategies, and helps you track spending. It is an AI-assisted tool — it does
not provide regulated financial advice.
2. Data we process
Account identifiers: a Firebase anonymous user ID created automatically on first launch. If you choose to link an account, also your email address and sign-in identifiers (Email/Password, Google, or Apple).
Financial estimates you enter: debt balances, monthly budget, payment logs, budgets, and profile names.
Statement scans: images you choose to scan. Extraction runs on your device first (Apple Vision or Google ML Kit); if the on-device result is low-confidence, the image is sent to our processing service for structured extraction.
AI requests: chat messages, purchase amounts, and the debt context needed to answer (e.g. total balance, monthly budget, debt-free date).
Subscription status: handled by RevenueCat (entitlement/app user ID). Card details are processed by Apple or Google and are never sent to us.
We do not ask for bank credentials, do not connect to your bank,
do not serve ads, and do not track you across other apps or websites.
3. Where data is stored and processed
On your device: your financial data is stored locally in an encrypted database (AES-256-GCM). The encryption key is held in the device Keychain/Keystore.
Firebase Authentication (Google) — manages the anonymous/linked account identity.
Google Cloud Run + Google Gemini — our backend performs AI chat, statement extraction (server fallback), and trade-off framing. Requests are processed transiently and are not stored by us after the response; we do not use your content to train models.
RevenueCat — manages subscription status; it does not receive your financial figures or statement images.
Apple / Google — sign-in and payment processing under their own terms.
Where personal data is transferred outside the EEA/UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards
(e.g. the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses) with our processors.
4. Legal bases (Art. 6 GDPR)
Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)): providing the app, storing your numbers locally, syncing your account, and processing AI requests you initiate.
Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)): keeping the service secure and preventing abuse of scan limits.
Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)): where required, e.g. optional cloud backup.
5. Data sharing
We share data only as necessary to run the service: Google (Firebase Auth, Cloud Run,
Gemini), RevenueCat (subscriptions), and Apple/Google (sign-in and billing). We do
not sell your data and do not share it with data brokers.
6. Analytics and tracking
The app does not include third-party advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs. If we add
privacy-respecting diagnostics in the future, we will update this policy and the store
Data Safety / App Privacy disclosures.
7. Retention and deletion
Local financial data remains on your device until you delete it or delete your account.
Deleting your account removes your account identity, local data, and any encrypted cloud backup. You can do this in the app under More → Delete account, or via the web page at the account deletion page.
You can delete individual records (payments, profiles, budgets) in the app without deleting your account.
Subscription billing records are retained by Apple, Google, and RevenueCat as required by law and their own policies.
8. Your rights (GDPR)
You may access, rectify, erase, restrict, or port your personal data; withdraw consent;
object to processing based on legitimate interests; and lodge a complaint with a supervisory
authority. Most rights are exercised in-app. For other requests, contact info@khunchro.com.
9. Children
KnotMyDebt is not directed at children under 16.
10. AI and accuracy
AI-generated explanations and estimates may be incomplete or incorrect. Projections are
estimates based on the figures you enter and may not match your lender's exact terms.
Always verify important figures with your lender or a qualified adviser.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be communicated in the app.
